Prerequisites: Experience tying / being tied in suspension, improvising with advanced skills, a desire to examine your own practice and establish your own goals. (advanced)
Additional Topics:
Prism Boxtie: Mr.R’s Chest-Loading Boxtie
Days & Times: Wednesday, September 2, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Minimum Level: Intermediate+
Cost: $30/person
The Prism Boxtie was developed by Mr.R in collaboration with Arby to build a boxtie that had many of the attractive and motivating features of a traditional boxtie, but without loading the arms in suspension. Structurally, the Prism is a stemmed variation of the popular Spellbound Harness.
This class is for you if you are looking for a boxtie that can be sustainable for floor and suspension play. This harness has been developed specifically for chests without chest tissue and can be used on many/most bodies.
Class Topics:
- Risks and safety for arms in boxties
- Body manipulation and shoulder setting
- Placement, structure of pattern elements as related to your person in rope
- Manage internal tension to translate into comfortable load distribution
Pre-requisites
- If tying…comfort learning multi-step patterns
- …comfort with single column ties, inline cuffs, x-frictions, rope extension, hitches
- …Rope 102 or similar level of skill
- …Uplines, if seeking to suspend (we will not teach uplines; uplines must pass a simple check)
- If being tied…body awareness and the ability to communicate concerns about nerve impingement or circulation loss
- …a desire to be tied with arms at the back
- …a risk profile that includes boxties
Boundary Conditions in Partial Suspension
Days & Times: Wednesday, September 30, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Minimum Level: Beginning suspension
Cost: $30/person
When does support from the floor stop being meaningful?
Working at the boundary between grounded and suspended states, we’ll explore how to build ties that progressively remove the body’s ability to exert force downward. shifting weight, limiting push, and refining control. The focus is not on fixed patterns, but on understanding the mechanics that define an effective partial.
Working at the boundary between grounded and suspended states, we’ll explore how to build ties that progressively remove the body’s ability to exert force downward. shifting weight, limiting push, and refining control. The focus is not on fixed patterns, but on understanding the mechanics that define an effective partial.
Structured as a guided exploration, this class invites improvisation within clear constraints. We’ll work toward a shared goal: creating partial suspensions where contact with the floor no longer offers stability, leverage, or relief.
Along the way, we’ll look at how small adjustments change the experience, and how to read those changes in real time. This is a class for those who want to move beyond “some weight off the ground” and into something more deliberate.
Class Topics:
- How to create partial suspensions
- Dynamic interplay available in partial suspension
- Hands-on time to explore and discuss the topic
- Integration of play modalities
- Safety and Communication
Pre-requisites
- If tying…front-, and rear-loading chest harness
- …upline management in static suspension
- If being tied…body awareness in rope and practiced communication skills about circulation and nerve concerns
