FAQ

What do I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing, like you would for a yoga class. Nudity is not allowed and is besides the point of class. We find its best to keep the distracting things away when learning a new skill.

When and where are classes?

We schedule classes for a specific series and you should sign up for a specific course. In general, we operate from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Copley Square, just moments from the Public Library.

What should I bring for rope classes?
  • Rope* (no cotton rope allowed)
  • EMT sheers* that can cut your rope
  • Notepad & pen**
  • Water bottle**

*available for purchase during class

**recommended, not required

What is rope class like?

During class we mostly sit on the floor. An instructor and an assistant will lead some discussion and introductions. Then the bulk of the class is spent learning a specific tie or two. Individual skills are isolated and then shown in context.

Classes are capped at 16 people and can run as small as 8 people, depending on the topic.

Do I need a partner?

For the beginner series, Rope 101, no partner is needed. The ties, structures, and skills are all learned and practiced as self-ties, mostly on our legs and lower body.

For the intermediate classes, a partner is strongly recommended. The content of these classes is primarily upper body ties, which are difficult to self-tie. It may be possible to share a person in rope or to make modifications for self-tying. Contact the instructor if you have questions.

What type of rope should I bring?

Our preference is for hand-treated, 6mm, loose lay jute rope (available processed in-house by Mr.R) of 8 meter lengths. Other options are alternate kinds of jute, hemp, or synthetic ropes. Types of ropes and length choice is discussed in Rope 101.
